Calculate your budget

In the first paragraph of your relocation checklist, you should think about how much money you have and distribute these funds. First, you need to pay a company that will pack and transport your things. Next, calculate how much money it will take you to rent (or even buy) a new apartment. Be sure to leave a sufficient amount for the first expenses (food, household chemicals, and so on) and also leave the amount of money that you can live on for at least two months. Yes, it's time to look into that very huge closet and get absolutely all the things out of it! When you move to a new house, you start a new page in your life. You should not take all your old things into a new life. Have you not liked your jacket for a long time, which you were given as a gift? Is your bookshelf bursting with what you have already read or don't plan to read? Just sell it all! And if you have a good heart, you can donate all this to charity. In general, the choice is yours.

The fastest way to sell something is the internet. See how other people are selling similar items, take some high-quality photos, come up with an interesting description, and set an average market price. Keep only the things you REALLY need. In addition, the fewer things, the cheaper and faster the move will be.

Find the right professionals

If you led an ascetic lifestyle and all your belongings can be packed into two suitcases, then skip to the next paragraph. But in other cases, you will need the help of companies that organize transportation. In advance, you should think about professional packing, cleaning, and dry cleaning. Usually, good moving companies will pack your things as well. Put it all on your list for moving into a new house. 

When choosing a moving company, pay attention to the reputation. A good reputation will say that this company did not deceive its customers and performed its duties with high quality. Or at least if it messed up, the situation was solved and the customer left satisfied. 

Next, pay attention to the basic and additional services that will be provided to you. However, not all companies provide packing services. Perhaps you also need temporary storage services? This should also be clarified in advance. And the most obvious - can this company transport you and your belongings to the city and the place that you need? Can this company move your favorite century-old HUGE cabinet and piano? Discuss all this beforehand.

What guarantees will be ready to provide you? Usually, everything goes smoothly, but maybe you are the one who is not too lucky. Suddenly, one of your things breaks or gets lost due to the fault of employees? How will you be compensated in this case? Usually, this is all discussed in the contract - so read it carefully!

Don't forget to label all your boxes to make it easier to figure out what's where. It is also useful to pack bulky items and clothes in vacuum bags. This will save you a lot of space. But good moving companies usually do the packing for you, bringing their own packing material. Just discuss it all in advance so moving company workers will know what to do and how exactly to pack your things. 

Prepare your new place

Consider in advance the arrangement of furniture in your new apartment. Maybe some of your old furniture won't fit in your new home? In this case, it will be better to sell it. And buy something more suitable.

After you arrive at your new location, movers will deliver your new furniture to your new location. Just point out how to position it so you don't have to do it yourself. That is why it is so important to think about this issue in advance. The easiest way would be to measure the furniture and write it down separately, and already in the new house to think and measure where it can be placed, what is better to be sold, and so on. Make packing and moving checklists to make it all easier. 

Also, do not forget that in your new home, the doorways may simply not be large enough and some furniture will not be physically possible to carry through. If your furniture can be disassembled for the move - it would be very good. It is much easier to pack and transport disassembled furniture than it can be assembled again. Ask moving company workers for help if you feel you can’t handle it on your own. It is better to pay a bit more and get a result here and now rather than sleeping on the floor. 

Find a place to park your car (if you have one), and find out what shops are nearby. Immediately after moving in, you will most likely have to go shopping. You need to have dinner or something, right? It's also a good idea to find out where a hospital, gym, sauna, or beauty salon is nearby - any place you're used to going to that you might need. Also, think about how you will get to your new job. Preparing things needed to move into a new house is very important!

Time for payback!

When creating your moving tips checklist you should also deal with all financial issues. In other words, pay all bills to the last penny. And also figure out if you owe something somewhere. Perhaps you are still in debt at your local library or store? Do not take this burden with you.

Most precious things

Last but not least in the relocation checklist are the most valuable things - money, credit cards, jewelry - pack them yourself. Where to put all this? Decide for yourself. But a good option would be to put it all in a bag or backpack, which will always be in your hands. All your documents should be put in the same bag, having previously folded them into a folder. All the essentials for moving should be packed so you can easily get them. 

What if I'm moving but I still have my house?

Perhaps you haven't thought about it yet. But when moving to a new house, something should be done with the old one. If you rent it - warn your landlord and discuss all issues with him. If the house belongs to you - think about what you can do with it. First of all, it can be sold for instant profit. You can also give it to someone to rent, you will receive much less money, but over time you can get more than when selling it.

If you are very unsure about your new home and new city, then your house or apartment can be “mothballed”. That is, to secure as much as possible and do everything so that the apartment remains safe and sound, despite the fact that no one will live in it. This way you will have somewhere to go back if something goes wrong.
