Top Reasons to Move to San Diego

Is there a better way to start your life from scratch than to move from your old town? Yes, it will be complicated, and you’ll be stressing out a lot, but isn’t that what life is all about - leaving your comfort zone in order to see a better future? And yes, moving is hard, especially if you already live in a house or have a family with you, but it isn’t impossible. The hardest choice to make is to decide where exactly you want to settle down. Just think about what kind of city will be comfortable for you. Are you quiet, remote from the eyes of the hustle little town in the middle of nowhere? Or maybe you want to go out and see shiny skyscrapers piercing on the horizon while you are on a shopping spree with lots of friends? Maybe you want to be the next The Wolf of Wall Street? Who knows. But based on what you feel you can choose the best spot for your new home.

There is a place where you can be anyone living the best life possible. We found the city which is almost universal in terms of the balance of quiet and pretty little town/buzzing megalopolis. If you’re looking for a warm place with plenty of high-paid jobs, offering you one of the best education available in the USA, and also want to be always nearby places where you can rest, looking at the most picturesque landscapes like grassy plains and mountains, there is only one road - to San Diego. We will give you 10 reasons why you may want to move there.

TOP 10 reasons why people choose San Diego

Yes, there are some cons to living there, especially if you expect to live in a small and quiet village near the town. San Diego is a loud city, so, before considering moving there, just make sure that it has a spirit that matches your expectation. Simply visit the city first as a tourist and see if you like it or not. Some people don’t like it because it’s too hot, and others just can’t bare the climate. It’s important to decide now rather than regret it later. You’ll have to make sure that you comfortable living there, have an opportunity to pay your bills (the taxes in California are considered to be one of the highest in the US by the way), and can afford to pay the rent, even after spending some money on the move. So, why move to San Diego?

1. San Diego is not as populated as Los Angeles. According to the United Nations, and the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the population of San Diego has nearly reached the number of 3 million(relevant for 2023). Believe us, it’s not that much compared to Los Angeles with its 12.5 million residents, so it’s one of the smallest populated cities on the west coast. This is kind of a good thing because this means that there is a lesser demand for property and rental spaces, which sometimes lowers the prices for apartments and houses. But be aware that it’s still kind of expensive to live there because the city is still kind of famous and better conduct research on whether you can afford to buy or rent a property there.

2. San Diego is a center for plenty of high-paid jobs in the military, IT, or science. The Navy and the Marine Corps bases are situated there, which can be useful if you want to start your carrier in the military. Technology enterprises like Apple also provide office seats for everyone capable. Simply saying, it’s hard to be not employed in a city that big. You can be a manager, IT specialist, military recruit or even start your own business and thrive. If you’re not an office person, you can always go remote. The city employees will gladly offer you such a thing, it got especially popular since the times of the pandemic.

3. There is no winter. At all. Mild coastal temperatures are all year round allowing you to do any kind of activity you like - surfing, skating, hiking, cycling, just whatever. Blue sunny skies and palm trees paradise, so you won’t have to worry about paying extra bills for heating your apartment.

4. Diversity is a great thing, and San Diego is one of the most culturally tolerant cities. Here you can visit Little Italy or go to a Chinese restaurant, see and feel the cultural heritage of almost any nation on the planet.

5. While living in San Diego you’re also free to visit any bigger cities. Lots of people go on vacation tours to Los Angeles, get married in Vegas, or simply go to Mexico just to taste some tequila. You can travel by car, but if you want to travel somewhere far away San Diego has an International airport for it.

6. Best beaches in the US (probably). They’re clean, the water is always nice and warm and it’s usually not overcrowded. Aren’t those the best beaches? People usually recommend visiting Point Loma if you want to take beautiful sunset pics from the cliffs and chill after work looking at the peaceful waves, while Tourmaline Beach and Oceanside Harbor are quite the opposite. It’s usually visited by locals for sports, and the waves there are great for surfing. Pacific Beach, Coronado, La Jolla Shores, and Encinitas are the beaches where you can get a free tan (don’t forget the sunscreen), lie down on the sand, and just enjoy the fact that you won’t need to worry about wearing several coats of sweaters and jackets every winter.

7. If you want to move to study, the city can offer you several educational establishments where you can get the degree that you want by following the best undergraduate programs. The most famous universities are the University of California – San Diego, University of San Diego, San Diego State University, USD School of Law, and so on.

8. Family-friendly places to visit. As you may guess, it’s a big city, of course, it has some places you can take your kids to. For example, in Balboa Park, where you can both relax and educate your kids by showing them different exotic plants, flowers, and trees, show them arts and sciences at the museum located in the park, and simply walk the gardens looking at all this beauty. Or, you can go to SeaWorld to see some aquatic mammals and fish and ask a guide to show and tell about each inhabitant of SeaWorld. There are also plenty of rollercoasters and kids-friendly parks across the city, so, you definitely won’t get bored on the weekends.

9. San Diego has one of the most diverse and safest neighborhoods, like Normal Heights, Ocean Beach, or Hillcrest, where residents look out for each other and support local business.

10. Local cuisine. If there is plenty of diversity, of course, there will be tasty cuisine. It’s a rule. Some of the best restaurants, cafes, and craft breweries usually have the same Mexican spirit. So, we highly recommend tasting some authentic tacos or seafood in Oscars of Fish 101.
